The Characteristics of Mysticism & WE-Mysticism

By Patricia Albere

The classical understanding of a mystic is a person who has a direct experience of the sacred, unmediated by conventional religious rituals or intermediaries. Brittanica.com says, “Mystics believe that their experiences disclose the existence of an extrasensory dimension of reality: phenomena whose existence cannot be detected through sense perception.”

While the classical mystic turns inward to touch the Divine, a new expression of mysticism is emerging, one that arises not in isolation, but together. When people align in a particular way with each other, something activates… a shared reality that is alive with the Divine. We don’t connect to it in separation, but slip inside it together, like distinct fragrances merging in the same air. This is not an extension of the mysticism sourced by non-dual awakening. It’s the beginning of something entirely new. For now we could call it WE-Mysticism.

In WE-Mysticism, shared unity, as sourced by the highest evolutionary forces, takes us way beyond the reality of a lone mystic. The longing falls away, and we disappear into an intimate and inexpressable love. Together, within the proper alignment, we enter the evolutionary reality that is coming into existence and will eventually create a new world.

You cannot access the WE-Mystical path as a lone practitioner. Instead, WE-Mysticism is lived when two or more people come together in a particular way and give themselves to the unitive space, and follow what emerges. In that contact, they experience a simultaneous sense of being completely withdrawn from the ordinary world yet completely together in a world of multidimensional divine unfolding.

Characteristics of Mysticism & WE-Mysticism

William James described the four characteristics of a traditional mystical experience in his book The Varieties of Religious Experience. Those characteristics are:

  1. Ineffable
  2. Noetic
  3. Unpredictable
  4. Uncontrollable

There are two additional characteristics of a WE-Mystic. Those are:

Collective Transparency

This characteristic involves being open and communicating so that everything flows. Nothing becomes stuck, stagnant, and has a chance to metastasize. People aren’t afraid to say something because everything that they are and everything that they deal with in life exists within shared unity. They continually turn towards one another in communion. WE-Mystics are the stewards of the unitive existence together, as One. They are surrendered to acting and being acted upon so that divine creativity lives through them.

Spiritual Interdependency

Instead of everyone being spiritually independent and doing their own thing in relation to the divine, the WE-Mystic has spiritual interdependency. So if something is opening for one person, it affects the whole. In the mutual indwelling, more happens because they are together, and the momentum of transformation, healing, divinization, and whatever else is moving is exponentially felt through the power of the collective. When they work together, spiritual interdependence creates something impossible for individuals to access alone.

More on WE-Mysticism

Ultimately, the most practical thing right now is to be a WE-Mystic because they are sourced by a Reality based in unity, making it possible to resolve the irreconcilable gaps between our personal life (normal and spiritual) and living in a world that is in chaos.

I share more about the characteristics of a mystic and WE-Mystic in this short video. I encourage you to watch it from that part of you that yearns to give yourself completely to the Divine. See what stirs for you.

In Unity,

Patricia
