The Mandorla

By Patricia Albere

The process of discovering the perfect logo for the Evolutionary Collective many years ago was an interesting journey. I worked with a few designers who, although they were technically good and spiritually awake, somehow couldn’t find it in the unseen.

I then connected with a wonderful graphic designer from Manhattan, who took me on an artistic journey through album covers of the 1960’s, images in Harper’s Bazaar magazine, science, and Zen drawings. The logo arose with color, dynamism, and the ongoing interpenetration of imperfect wholes. That form became the Evolutionary Collective logo that has symbolized our work for many years.

Later, an old friend, Martin Rutte (author of Chicken Soup for the Soul in Business), and I were having dinner in Santa Fe, and he said that the logo looked like a mandorla – a word I had never heard. Mandala? – No, mandorla.

The mandorla is an age-old symbol that appears in the images and myths of cultures from all over the world. The more ancient image is shown above. It represented the mysterious Feminine aspect of life as a sacred womb, a portal between the realm of spirit and the realm of matter, through which all life passes into this world.

This image is Christian and is also known as the vesica piscis. The Christian meaning was the coming together of Heaven and Earth. Early Christians would use it to make themselves known to each other. One person would trace a curved line on the ground or on a wall, and someone else would put another circle overlapping the first to create the mandorla. The shape, sometimes looking like a fish, was a hidden message between them as they shared a new kind of spirituality.

It was also known as a divine container in which a new creation would form and grow. It was the liminal space in which we are to exist. The place where we are not quite in one world or the other. The liminal space is where you are living on the threshold, in the between, where all transformation takes place.

Awakening to the mystery of the forces we are a part of, the levels of interconnected reality that we swim in are the new consciousness we are finding.

At that time, more than 13 years ago, I could see that there were new evolutionary possibilities for humanity coming into existence and that we in the Evolutionary Collective were tapping into a larger and deeper emergent reality, an invisible intelligent field that we could access and work with directly.

These many years later, after thousands of people have engaged in Mutual Awakening and the deeper practices and contexts we are working with within the Evolutionary Collective, the clarity of a new evolutionary wave bringing forth, quite literally, the potentials of Heaven on Earth is vividly clear.

We are in the midst of another evolution inside the Evolutionary Collective. Over time, as the lived reality this teaching points to has become increasingly stable and inhabitable within the Evolutionary Collective, the mandorla has done its work. It remains a precise articulation of how unitive reality comes into being. The visual form that represents this work has naturally updated — emphasizing both the threshold and the coherence of a unitive reality.

What remains consistent is our commitment to being a living laboratory where this unitive reality can be entered, lived, and embodied together.

In Unity,

Patricia
